As an incoming undergraduate, financial aid is available in the form of music scholarships and general UW financial aid through loans, scholarships, and work-study.
The School of Music holds annual in-person scholarship auditions during Winter Quarter for admission to our programs the following academic year. Each year, approximately 100 scholarships are awarded to incoming and continuing students. To receive scholarship funds, you must be accepted into the School of Music and be a full-time student. Scholarships are open only to music majors.
Scholarship auditions generally take place during late January and early February. For this year's audition dates, go to http://www.music.washington.edu/advising/aud_dates.php. To schedule an audition, please contact the Admissions & Outreach Coordinator, Jenni Cole, at jcole2@u.washington.edu or (206) 685-9872. You MUST submit your application to the UW before you can schedule an audition.
If you live more than 1,000 miles from Seattle, we will accept videotape or DVD recordings of auditions (audio recordings will NOT be accepted). They must be postmarked by January 15th to ensure consideration.
Check out the suggested audition repertoire.
The School of Music has several Work-Study positions available, in areas such as accompanying, research and teaching, library services, reading for music history courses, and office assisting. Work-study applicants should contact the UW Work Study Office at (206) 685-1985 and Douglas Mathews, School of Music Administrator, at (206) 543-2137.
All students who need financial assistance should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is due February 15th for priority consideration. This form is essential if you want to be considered for non-music aid. The Office of Student Financial Aid also has more information on ways to help pay for college.
