UW Choir 2012 Auditions are September 20 and 21

Auditioning for choir at the University of Washington involves a sight-singing evaluation and an opportunity for our faculty to hear you perform. Please come with a prepared piece to sing for us (an art song, folksong, or other national song). If possible, please bring an extra copy of your song with you for our accompanist.

How to Sign Up for an Audition

There are two steps:

First, please tell us about yourself and your musical background on this form.

Upon completion of this form you will be prompted to click a link to sign up for an audition time. You can also access the sign up form here: Sign-Up Spreadsheet to choose your audition time. (Be sure your choice is saved by clicking the "Save Now" button in the top right corner of the spreadsheet.)

Audition Procedure

Your audition should last approximately 8 minutes.

The audition will consist of two parts: a sight-singing diagnostic (to assess your level of sight-singing) and the performance of a prepared song. You should come with a song prepared: an art song, a hymn, or a national song are all appropriate. You will be provided an accompanist.

Please come to Room 222 in the Music Building at the time of your audition.

After the Audition

After we have heard all those auditioning, callback lists are created.

You will be called back for the ensemble we feel fits you best. You may be called back to more than one ensemble, and should attend both callbacks.

Once the personnel of the ensemble has been finalized, add codes will be given out and you can register.

Callback Schedule for 2012

Callbacks for Chamber Singers begin on Monday, September 24th at 12:30pm in Brechemin Auditorium (Music 126).

Callbacks for University Chorale begin on Monday, September 24th at 3:30pm in Music 213.

Callbacks for Recital Choir begin on Tuesday, September 25th at 4:30pm in Music 213.

If you were a member of an auditioned ensemble last year and wish to continue this year, you do not need to audition again, but must attend callbacks.
