"As I begin my fourth year here in the Choral Conducting program, I am yet again impressed by the way the individual (each with their own skills, their own strengths and weaknesses) is evaluated solely on their own merits. We are indeed a community of individuals working toward becoming better choral music educators, supporting and encouraging one another along our journey." |

In my view, the choral art is about human transformation--the conductor, the singers, the audience--the recruitment, retention, and marketing--the performance, the score study, and the rehearsal. Of all the programs in the United States, the University of Washington seems to focus the most on a holistic approach to conducting. There is no standard except the next steps which are necessary for the conductor to continue to excel. In this way, my gifts are valued, and I am allowed to advance beyond a set of standards to unknown heights. This process
I pass on to my choirs, as we grow together. This process propels us to sing better, to become better people, and to connect more deeply to the people connected to the music we are singing. This energy is a strong force in helping the audience to be changed by the choral art as well. |

Building a community within a choir enables the singers to openly
trust, emote, and explore innate expressive elements of music and
themselves. I am excited to delve into the aspects of how building
community and collaboration might enhance an individual's expressivity in and outside of the rehearsal. This is an inherent part of the UW program and I am eager to discuss and nurture these techniques and philosophical ideals. |

The unique nature and collaborative approach at UW provide a secure, supportive, and collaborative environment in which to attempt, assess, grow, and ultimately, succeed." |

"The University of Washington choral conducting program is really worthy. That is because this program lets us know how to think for music rather than how to beat; how to love a choir rather than control them; and how to cry for your journey rather than just to enjoy." |

"I chose the UW choral conducting program because of the following:
1) the size of the program (it had the largest number of graduate students among three schools in various parts of the US into which I was accepted);
2) the location of the university (a major city set in a gorgeous nature);
3) the faculty with interesting ideas and impressive professional credentials." |
