Dave Cross -- composer, arranger, clinician, guest conductor and music educator -- is highly respected for his wealth of knowledge and experiences in the field of music education. He directs two vocal jazz ensembles and teaches vocal jazz pedagogy classes at the UW School of Music.
He has taught at Snohomish, Tyee, University, and Cascade high schools, Edmonds and Shoreline community colleges, and the University of Washington. His musical standards, integrity, sincerity, and contributions to music education have earned him the respect of the education community nationally and honors such as Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Outstanding Music Educator and induction Washington Music Educators Hall of Fame.
He has been treasurer and president of the Washington Music Educators Association, and served as president of the Washington State Chapter of the International Association of Jazz Education, president of the Sno-King and Eastern Washington Music Educators regional organizations, and co-chair of the International Jazz Education Association Vocal Jazz Resource Committee. He is a member of MENC, WMEA, IAJE, and ACDA.
Cross is in demand as a clinician and guest conductor, and has conducted honor choirs throughout the United States and Canada. Cross was a founding member and served for 25 years on the faculty of the Frank DeMiero Jazz Camp. His arrangements and compositions, more than 120 in the vocal jazz idiom, are published by UNC Press and Sound Music Publications.
Cross earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Education and master’s degree in Music from Washington State University.
